Supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, Susma Platform held its third meeting with local artists, civil society organizations and activists in Eksişehir province following two earlier meetings in Diyarbakır and İzmir. The event was titled: “Freedom Expression for Artists and Civil Society under State of Emergency”
Representatives of unions, foundations, cultural institutions, writers’ organizations as well as several academics who were expelled from their university posts under State of Emergency attended the event.
During the event, Susma coordinator Sibel Oral described the work of Susma, P24 Director Barış Altıntaş spoke of the platform’s activities, P24 Legal Unit Lawyer Ferat Çağıl spoke about the legal rights of artists and activists.
Three participants from other cities, editor of Evrensel Kültür (shuttered by a cabinet decree) Hakkı Zariç, Amed City Theator actor Berfin Emektar and Evrensel Publishing House Editor-in-Chief Cavit Nacitarhan made presentations about their own State of Emergency experiences.
Live discussions took place during the event. The next day, the Susma team visited several NGOs in the city to talk about common plans, including a visit from the Barışa Ezgiler (Melodies for Peace) music band, founded by expelled academics, to Diyarbakır.
